When you put your waste in the skip you've hired , do you think about where it goes and what happens with it? Every person who passes their waste onto a company or another person has the right to know what happens with it , whether this is by Skip Hire or Waste Clearance or even Skip Bags.
Our article looks are what happens to the waste types we collect in your skips.
First step
The first step when we collect your skip is to take it to our licensed waste transfer station. The transfer station is permitted by the Environment Agency who carry out periodic checks. Some companies take their waste to third party waste transfer stations but we have our own.
You can check on the Environment Agency website whether a company has an Environmental Permit and /or a Waste Carriers Licence.
Segregation of the waste
The waste is tipped within a large waste building and segregation starts. The waste is separated into material which can be recycled , recovered or disposed of.
RECYCLED WASTE
Wood
Wood waste from your skip is recycled to make new wood products such as MDF and animal bedding
Metal
Metal waste is recycled to make new products too! Scrap metal is in high demand and mostly sent all over the world!
Soil / Rubble / Bricks
Inert waste is recycled and again made into new products such a road stone. The inert waste goes through a process of quality checks to ensure the waste is safe to re-use. By crushing and screening the waste it can remove contaminates and reduce the size to make it suitable for re-use in building materials.
Green Waste
Green waste such as bushes and shrubs are taken to a specialist facility to be turned into compost. Anaerobic digestion is the process used to turn your garden waste and biodegradable wastes into the compost which is used to grow your flowers!
Cardboard and Paper
Card and Paper again is either sent to paper mills within the UK or exported to China. Either way the card/paper is recycled and made into new products.
WEEE Waste
Small and large electronical wastes are either fixed and re-used or stripped and components recycled.
Non-recyclable material
By the time we have processed the waste we have a small amount of material which cannot be recycled. A high percentage of this waste is sent for recovery. Waste recovery means turning into energy. For example , Energy from Waste Plants accept this material and turn it into energy that can be used to power homes and business premises.
Landfilled waste
A small (2%) of waste we accept in your skips is taken to landfill (for now). This is the waste whih absolutley cannot be re-used , recycled or recovered.
Why is it important to use a Skip Hire company who are doing all they can to divert from landfill?
The UK is running out of Landfill space , therefore waste experts are working behind the scenes to find new way to recycle your waste materials.
Depositing recyclable materials into landfill is not only a crime but it is also unethical.
Here at Cheap Skips Mansfield , our aim is to hit our target of getting our waste 100% diverted from landfill and in the recent year this percentage creeps up with new innovative ways that are being introduced from experts.
By choosing an ethical company you are also contributing to protecting your local environment but also the global environment.
