When you decide to hire a skip in Mansfield or Nottingham , you want to be able to get the most out of the service. Rightly so! You are paying for a waste removal service and all the hard work is down to you filling the skip , so anything you can do to cut the costs you need to know beforehand.
This insight into how to cut costs on skip hire has been written by experts who have worked in Skip Hire for over 20 years. Take notes! We want repeat skip hire customers , so instead of selling false promises , we sell you great tips and great service.
1. Make use of those scrap metal collectors.
Whilst we actively encourage your to put scrap metal in our skips , if you are limited by budget when hiring a skip then taking out scrap metal saves you room. By saving room you need a smaller skip , smaller skips equals cheaper skip hire.
Obviously we would only recommend using licensed scrap metal collectors - ones which can show you their scrap collectors licence and waste carriers licence.
2. Choose the right skip size
Sounds simple right? Well , if you order a skip that's too small you end up paying to dispose of the extra waste , but if you order a skip that's too big you pay for fresh air!
Check out our skip sizes but also call us - we love to help people so we can always advise on what we think would be the best skip size for you.
3. Make use of local council bulky waste collections
Are you looking at that pile of rubbish and wondering how you will fit it in a skip? You're going to need a cargo ship to move all this (or so it seems). Take out the bulky items and see if the Local Council can offer a free or low cost collection. It may be more cost effective to reduce the skip size and pay a small fee rather than order a cargo ship!
(obviously that was a joke , cargo ships can't fit on driveways)
4. Stack the skip correctly
Our most useful tip is to stack the skip right. It's been a hard day , you've cleared out the house and all you want to do is get the skip filled. However , someone had chucked a mattress in the bottom and now you have no room to put the rest of it in.
Start to layer the waste in the skip. Slowly layer up.
Place things as flat as you can on top of each other , if you have furniture break it down so it doesnt take up much room.
The final stage is filling - Fill the pockets of air with debris. Rubble , soil , bags of waste - literally anything you can find which can fill the gaps.
5. Book the skip in plenty of time
Picture the scene , the bathroom fitter is here , they say - wheres the skip? Oh no - Panic!
You do a google search and no one local can get a skip out to you , so you end up paying higher costs to a company out of the area.
If you book the skip in advance you have more change of getting it cheaper from a local skip hire company , Like us!
What happens if the skip is overloaded?
Unfortunately if your skip is overloaded we will not be able to collect or exchange it. By overloaded we mean filled over the top of the sides. So no greedy boards , no stacking it to the moon - keep it level. If you imagine that you have paid for us to remove the waste that is IN the skip not on top.
Overloaded skips are dangerous to transport on the road. What's that I hear you say "the driver covers it with a net" , the skip nets are there to ensure nothing blows off the skip , they are not engineered to hold in place waste that's stacked on top.
We're not that cruel to refuse a skip with a table leg sticking up , we do not mind approx 6-8 above the sides.
If you are unsure , give us a call and we can help you choose the right skip size.
